Title:
Adjunctive Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Periprosthetic Joint Infections: A Retrospective Analysis
Objectives:
- 1. Review the unique pathophysiology of periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs)
- 2. Discuss the potential role of HBOT for PJI management
- 3. Review the data of HBOT for complex PJI in a single center over 10 years
Presenter Profile:
Alvin Tieu is currently a third-year anesthesia resident at the University of Ottawa. His background includes a PhD that combined clinical research and basic science methodologies to study stem cell therapies in acute respiratory distress syndrome. During his Master’s, he conducted a randomized clinical trial defining the dialytic clearance of beta-blockers in patients on hemodialysis. While in residency, Alvin has developed a clinical and academic interest in hyperbaric medicine with a research focus on: (1) investigating current treatment standards and clinical trial design in HBOT, and (2) conducting retrospective and prospective studies to assess the efficacy of HBOT on emerging indications.
